CRScanner.com - Further Information

The followings items contain a wide variety of additional information relating to radio scanners and their usage. Much of the content heard on CRScanner.com can sound rather cryptic at times. Primarily though, this cryptic communication is intended to reduce usage of the airwaves rather than to confuse listeners.

NATO Phonetic Alphabet - Code words for specifically identifying letters in voice communication. Useful when letters such as "B", "C", E" can unclearly all sound the same. This is an important internationally recognized alphabet that everybody should memorize. Not only is it useful for scanner listening, but it also comes in handy when speaking unclear letters over telephone.

RCMP (Police) 10-Codes - 10-Codes are used to keep radio communications shorter than they need to be to conserve resources. The following 10-Codes are for Vancouver Island RCMP. It should be noted that less common 10-Codes can vary greatly between regions and different law enforcement agencies. For example, a 10-72 in Campbell River means "Alarm", where as in some other places, it can represent "Knifing".

Abbreviations - Also used to keep communications brief.
